Why Doesn't Deferred Maintenance Of Air Compressors Save Money?

Jun 25, 2022

In the era of national energy-saving, people are very concerned about the energy efficiency of air compressors. There are more and more first-class energy-efficient air compressors on the market, which is indeed a good phenomenon for the benefit of the country and the people. However, more people are concerned about the energy efficiency of new compressors but ignore the energy efficiency of the after-market air compressors. However, it is certain that if an air compressor can be reasonably maintained and cared for, it can better expand energy efficiency. As the market becomes increasingly mature, after-market energy saving of air compressors will probably be the next windfall soon.

After years of working on the whole compressor and after-market, the author has some personal insights and experiences, which I would like to discuss with you. To facilitate the reading of many friends new to the industry, this article is described in a simple and easy-to-understand way without involving deeper technical knowledge.

The current situation of air compressor industry maintenance

I believe that almost all air compressor agents will often encounter such a difficult problem: some air compressor users to the maintenance time do not want to maintain on time and want to delay a few hundred, a thousand hours or more time maintenance. In this case, it is estimated that the most reasoning spoken with the user may be how much potential harm the delayed maintenance will bring to the air compressor, which can also convince some users to maintain on time. If you encounter a user who can't be convinced, you can only come to a "don't blame me for future problems". This conversation technique is probably the version most air compressor agents often use.

I think half the effort of convincing users is not to find the core of the problem - why do customers want to delay maintenance? Putting aside the objective factor that the user is busy with production and temporarily cannot stop maintenance, the user wants to delay maintenance, but only to save money. Since the user is trying to save money, you talk about a lot of delayed maintenance on the potential hazards of the air compressor, the target is not particularly strong, but air compressors will greatly reduce the effect; besides, even if the delayed maintenance of several hundred, a thousand hours, the air compressor will not be too big a problem in the short term, the user can not see the harm caused by delayed maintenance, the natural psychology of trying to save money prevailed, resulting in convincing the user to maintain on-time half the effort.

Since the user is trying to save money, we should follow the idea of saving money to convince the user. We do not know when the maintenance of the machine to pay attention to the current did not. The general maintenance before and after the current will be a 5 ~ 15% difference (7 ~ 10% is the mainstream). This means that the electricity cost wasted by postponing the maintenance for 500 hours is enough to do a maintenance cost, and the longer the postponement time, the bigger the current difference will be. This is because the air compressor, after a round of maintenance cycle operation, the oil surface has adsorbed a lot of dust and carbon. If deferred maintenance, the oil surface dust and carbon will be more and more;

In addition, after one round of the maintenance cycle, the ageing speed of lubricating oil will be accelerated, and the speed of carbon accumulation will be geometrically multiplied, so the deferred maintenance will accelerate the increase of current; furthermore, after one round of maintenance cycle, if the air filter is not replaced in time, the suction resistance will become bigger and bigger, which will also reduce the energy efficiency of air compressor.

We should start from energy saving to convince users to maintain the air compressor on time. The most direct and effective way is to compare the current before and after maintenance, using data. I believe that, except for a very few individual users, most of the users who want to postpone maintenance are easy to be convinced. Users are not air compressor experts, and their understanding of air compressors is not as deep as ours, so users inevitably want to save money.
